In Thailand, a Notary Public refers to a qualified attorney authorized to perform notarial services. This role is typically fulfilled by lawyers certified by the Lawyers Council of Thailand to act as Notarial Services Attorneys.

Key Functions of a Notarial Services Attorney in Thailand:

1. Authenticating Documents: Certifying the authenticity of signatures or documents.

2. Administering Oaths: Taking affidavits and statutory declarations.

3. Certifying Translations: Verifying translations of legal documents.

4. Attesting to Signatures: Witnessing and certifying signatures on legal forms.

5. Preparing Notarial Certificates: Issuing certificates for use in international transactions.

6. Supporting Foreign Legal Matters: Assisting in matters that require notarization for use abroad, such as visa or immigration applications.

Requirements to Become a Notarial Services Attorney in Thailand:

1. Legal Qualification: Must hold a law degree and a valid license to practice law in Thailand.

2. Certification Training: Must complete a Notarial Services Attorney course provided by the Lawyers Council of Thailand.

3. Council Approval: Must be approved and registered with the Lawyers Council.

This certification ensures that the attorney meets the standards required to handle notarial services for both domestic and international purposes. Unlike other countries, where notaries might not require legal training, Thai notarial services are strictly tied to licensed attorneys.
